LaoLao Bay Vine Control
A group of volunteers braved the summer heat to participate in MBC's May vine control. LaoLao Bay is home to a nesting seabird colony of Black and Brown Noddy and White Tern who rely on the large trees to place their nests. Invasive vines were beginning to kill some of the trees in the nesting colony. Thanks to the hard work of the volunteers, the trees will be allowed to recover and continue to provide nesting sites for our seabirds.
Most of the vine removal was inside the forest so unfortunately no pictures would adequately document the change over time. MBC staff were able to train the MINA's Tasi Watch Rangers that patrol the LaoLao Bay area and they will now be working on vine control in this area.
